YOU WILL BE TWEETED!

Hi! After such a longgg hiatus, I am back.. feels good though. So, I have really been a busy bee... trust me, being a PR consultant is not that easy!

So, today, here I write a blog, about things, I have seen, heard and read about, debating endlessly and mindlessly with colleagues, friends, seniors, clients, and et al...

Hope you enjoy this one.....

" Once more ‘internet’ is the buzz word. This time the gush is larger and better! The web 2.0 has unleashed its power and declared its reigning supremacy- case in point- The Anna Hazare wave that has entire nation gasping! Not many would have imagined a frail and diminutive 74 year old man from unheard parts of the country to give the “men –in-control” a run for their money! For more than 2 weeks- ‘Brand Anna Hazare’ had people of all age and classes glued on to TV. While television gave him lion’s share of visibility and prominence, newspapers unleashed majority of its space to highlight a movement that seemed to capture the entire country’s attention and fancy. While the traditional media, played its cards right, “I am Anna!” screamed small time products like Gandhian caps, Tantra T-shirts, bags, etc. One of the cutest ode to the fragile old man would be the Ganesha idols wearing spectacles with Anna Hazare Topis! Creativity teaming up with reality! I must say.
While the attraction was the ‘Ramlila Maidan’, the actual drama was unfolding somewhere else- on the world wide web- which incidentally celebrated its 20 years of existence this year!

Some mind-boggling media reports suggest that the official Facebook page of ‘India against Corruption’ with 2.8 lakh fans on August 15, reached 5.01 lakh on August 28. (The figures are sourced from the Facebook page analytics tool, Buzzref.com). The level of interaction also increased significantly on the official IAC Facebook page. In April, the IAC page observed 385 messages, 0.9 lakh 'likes' and 28,000 comments. The month of August, on the other hand, gauged 314 messages, 1.9 lakh 'likes' and 37,000 comments, as per Buzzref.com data.

Twitter, too, reflected widespread participation of people in Anna's anti-corruption movement. Messages related to the movement dominated Twitter conversations throughout the fasting period. People consistently talked about Anna Hazare, Jan Lokpal, Ramlila Maidan (the centre of Anna's fast), Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal on the micro-blogging site. More than 1.7 lakh tweets mentioned 'Anna Hazare', 1.5 lakh tweets mentioned 'Jan Lokpal' and 32,000 tweets referred 'Ramlila Maidan' during August 16-27.
While some look at the incident, with a more sentimental way, - “what will happen to our nation, but for people like Anna” way, one could also look at the whole thing clinically, in order to learn something -Virtual movement spawns real time change on ground”.

Here is looking at this to derive some valuable branding lessons for building brand image:

1. “If it doesn’t sell, it isn’t creative! In a scenario, where every other day, you hear about some or the other scam, people were relived that there was someone who had risen up to the occasion and taken the almighty to the task. The idea that even the highest authority of the country- the PM could be investigated for misdoings- was a plan that seemed appealing and exciting! So in short, mere presence on web through websites, Facebook, twitter, etc, will not help drive sales if the product is not great!

2. Offer an experience –Every brand is distinct, but how do you make consumers appreciate it? Brand Anna has achieved what politicians couldn’t: “Bringing the privileged middle class to the street, “and making them believe that they could contribute to the cause and that they have the power to make things change. The members of Team Anna were constantly tweeting, updating statuses with latest news and created a wave of support by communicating to people on all web channels possible, while Anna lay down with a frail look. Likewise a brand has an opportunity to interact with its customers on a real time basis, making the product experience memorable and enriching.

3. Package it right! To sell, the right combination of product, price, promotion and place is very essential. In this case, packaging and place were of the utmost importance. Gestures like Anna meditating in front of Gandhi’s Samadhi at Rajghat, just before the fast began, stole away the limelight from PM’s speech visual on this Independence Day! Team Anna put a simple presentation on all web channels depicting the basic differences between their version of the bill, viz-a-viz the government version, which made people understand what they were saying! A web presence should be visually rich with images and illustrations. If images can be placed judiciously with proper words and phrases, they can make a long lasting impression on the minds of the visitors of web pages, social media sites, etc. Images can make a web presence look lively, vivid and can offer a much needed breather for the visitors!

4. Be Honest! While communicating through traditional media channels, control on information exchange is very easy. However, with the advent of internet, information can not be controlled anymore, a complain or a bad product will be known globally in minutes. Customer are not deciding what to buy anymore only because the ads or information directly from the company, for them other customer opinion in a blog or Facebook is now far more important! So being honest and transparent on all information during crisis and normal times will save the face for the brands.

So, go ahead and take that first crucial step in unleashing the true potential of your brand, otherwise you will be tweeted!

It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going...!

Typing in from the office workstation can look quite threatening! But really... I just have to blog this post.. no matter what...

Once, someone who I look upto, remarked - "Tell me- who cares?" Right- the question is WHO CARES?

I have been trying to find a solution to this questions. Sometimes, I wonder, what is that makes us so careless and reckless, pushing us to the limit, where we stop caring.. is there any such limit where we can stop caring?

If nobody cares, then when things go wrong, why is that everyone is so bothered? Perhaps this is what they call the double dholkis! Excuse me, for the insane use of the language that understandably no one can understand!

Wait.. why should I ask you? This is my blog! Right? Eh, but again then who cares. Let us use our freedom of speech... or freedom of speaking rubbish!

I do not know what I am typing. I just have to type something and just blurt it out.

I am tired of doing wrong things at the wrong time with the wrong people....

I just wanted to ask one question- Is there one right person out there?

Who would just take words at face-value or rather some times just keep quiet and understand that words out of mouth are not words out of heart?

Well, I do not know. I might be wrong in judging others so harshly. But at the end of the tunnel, only one thing matter...

"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going...!

And if the going gets tough, you probably have a friend, a companion, a listener and sometimes a stalker behind you...

Because at the end of the day.... it is something I can't define!

One day I had a dream, I can’t define…….
I dreamt, I was walking long the beach, across the sky,
Flashed the scenes of my life…….
For each scene I noticed the people who meant everything in my ‘hive’
Some people said ‘Don’t laugh or you risk to appear a fool’
And I stopped laughing.
Then there were others who said…
“Living is to risk dying”
And yes I died.
Somewhere there were cries….
“Don’t hope or you’ll despair.”
“Don’t try or you’ll fail.”
Born as an original,
I waned away as a copy….
Chained by my attitude, I forfeited myself……
In my desperateness to be
Something ‘different’,
I became something-
I can’t define!

Quarter Life Crisis: This is what they call it.....!

"Hmmm..... Crisis.... Today's generation is a crap... all things they can't stand up to are called crisis!" yells my mother at her full volume... Irritatingly, I retreat into my cocoon, to assess, if what she says is truth!

The more I think, about it, the more discontent, I feel. What is this? Why do I feel on fire all the time...? What is that makes me feel something is missing. I work in a beautiful organization, with some wonderful colleagues, have some beautiful friends, have a great track record of getting things, have cool siblings, and a nice family... Still there is something that unnerves me, makes me restless and feel like a Kung Fu Panda( My new found love :)

Sigh, that doesn't make me feel better! There is something, some feeling of not knowing it enough, not doing enough and most importantly, not understanding it enough... The CEO who does not have any title, the monk who sold his Ferrari and the Alchemist will tell me, that this is just the beginning.... and this too shall pass.... but it does not suffice...

What is that makes me a rebellion... why am I so discontent... Perhaps... "I do not live in the present", pat will come the reply from some of my friends who act as the salvation-attained buddhas... THAT IRRITATES ME TO THE CORE

What do they know about me, what do we know about each other, why are we here?? What do we want?

Will money, good food, shelter, fame suffice me? NO is the answer... Then what is it? what do I want?

No replies. Sigh... this storm will drain all the energy or may be not... May be I will find my calling....

OR WILL I TOO WITHER AWAY LIKE SANDS OF TIME??

ONLY TIME WILL TELL!!!!!!!!

It's time I blog again!

Hmmm... So it has been quite a long time that I blogged, and pour all the crap from my head. On thing that did not change is the stupid computer of mine which doesn't bother to fasten up its speed. Doesn't care that I might move to a faster version of it.

Anyways... coming to where I had left from. It has been around more that a year or oh wait... two years that I really cared to blog! Oh wait man! I have been busy :) Really Busy!

Busy with what? Oh let me tell you busy with cascading changes and well... self transformation!

Back when I blogged for the last time, I was still that kid with aspirations to become an Adult! Oh wait, Now I realize I must have been foolish to even think of becoming one!

Well.. well, now that the sails of my life have changed, I am an adult, is something I have accepted. With my I shall do it with no frills attached attitude, I have completed a year at one of the best multi-national PR agencies in the world! (We have just been recongised as the Best Tech PR agency. Hurray :) )

Yeah, so I was saying, I have completed one year as a PR consultant and boy... I still feel the same rage, when I had joined my office. I need to get things done, someone's image is in my hands..

Well, the last one year in the PR industry has taught me many lessons, making sure that I deliver all the time. Accepted that there have been loads of challenges ( sometimes little overwhelming) But it also taught me that no matter what....

"THE SHOW MUST GO ON...." and it did!

Let me reminisce for a while and share with you my tryst with the destiny!

  1. No matter what you are going through, you have to wake up and go to office everyday! Sigh....
  2. It doesn't matter, if you have better ideas, the client is always right! (You just have to say this, let things unfold, let the client have his own taste of medicine, and then with "awww, I am with you" look in your eyes, quietly laugh in your mind " Idiot, didn't I tell you, this will NOT WORK " :)
  3. Whatever, you do, someone will have the reason to be unhappy with you! Dude this is the biggest learning-YOU CAN NEVER MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY IN THIS LIFE
  4. In every team you work, there will be one bosses' pet. And duh!- IT WILL NEVER BE YOU!

Well though, the above statements might sound a little pessimistic, I am surely not complaining, because, though I went through these, I definitely had some crazy and special moments.

I also learned how to:

1. contact the media and maintain a relationship with them
2. write an effective press release with little grammar mistakes and a catching lead
3. work with a team to execute a cohesive plan or idea
4. work for a client
5. present and assemble a pitch
6. maintain social media sites
7. publicize events
8. network
9. lead, plan, execute & evaluate a public relations campaign

And last but not the least...... "There is still so much to learn"
